Sept more choses about me: Versatile blogger award

Many thanks indeed to a new blogging friend of mine, Dreams and Adventures at Cosy Cottage, who nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Her warm and cosy blog covers many of my favourite topics in life, including gardening, chickens and, of course, adventures (plus a great deal more – I particularly enjoyed her recent post on her feathery neighbours). It is well worth a visit!

I had assumed that thinking of seven things to say about myself would be a breeze. I was mistaken. After spending a couple of days thinking my tired brain has only just managed to count to seven. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that:

1. I am currently so sleep-deprived (although all in a good cause so I’m not complaining) that I put face cream on my toothbrush this morning. Thankfully I realised my error before unnecessarily moisturising my teeth. I have also recently confused the wood burner with the microwave, and got as far as putting my plate into the flames before realising that something didn’t seem right. I am grey-faced and panda-eyed and terribly, terribly muddled! Probably because:
2. I seem to have transformed into my Chou-fleur’s personal, portable (and permanent) fauteuil. She reclines, stretched out and snoring, on my chest or in my arm for most of the day (and night if I’d let her) since she hates to sleep in her little cot (attached to our bed and all of six inches away from me) and on her back. Luckily for me I adore cuddles;
3. I am distantly related to the sculptor, Barbara Hepworth, who was my Grandma’s cousin. Although I do not personally care for her particular style I would, nevertheless, be ecstatic if either of my offspring inherited her creative gene. Only time will tell, although my Chou has, at least, started to show a vague interest in painting. I believe he favours Impressionism, with his visible brush strokes, which ‘capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details’; his technique of adding layers of paint ‘without waiting for successive applications to dry’; and his policy of working extremely quickly (thanks, Wikipedia!). Aside from such praise as is required of doting family members, and proud but misguided parents, he has yet to make waves in the art world. He is currently enjoying his ‘Cat Period’ – at any rate, from a certain angle and with squinted eyes a kind art critic might be persuaded that the grey blob pictured below portrays a sort of impression of a cat:
4. I (unashamedly) like to eat lime pickle straight from the jar with a spoon;
5. Thanks to my son I have become something of an expert in the identification of construction vehicles. I know the difference between a dumper truck and a tipper truck, a digger and an excavator, a wheel loader and a tunnelling loader. I can spot an auger and pick out a grader. I feel very blessed to be continuing my education in this way;
6. I was once run over by a parked car outside my house. I cannot explain how it happened, but one moment I was walking along the road, and the next I found myself underneath my neighbour’s car. Thankfully the only injury sustained was to my pride;
7. I am a magpie in human form. I love everything that sparkles and am magnetically drawn to sequins (my wedding dress was covered in sequins, my Christmas table runner (I’m sure that’s a thing) is made of gold sequins and I have covered a good part of the rainbow in my (unfinished) collection of glittery tops.
